Houston: Tragedy struck in Johnson County, Texas as a four-year-old boy, identified as Lucas N. Warren, lost his life after being swept away by floodwaters on Sunday. The Johnson County’s Office of Emergency Management, in a Facebook post, revealed that the boy’s body was recovered southeast of Fort Worth in the early hours of the morning. The authorities were alerted to the situation after receiving a distress call reporting that two adults and a child were trapped in a vehicle submerged in fast-moving water. While the adults managed to escape, young Lucas was tragically swept away by the powerful currents.

Lucas, who was just weeks away from his 5th birthday, was a victim of the unforgiving force of nature that has been wreaking havoc in Texas. The recent storms have led to numerous rescue operations and evacuations across the state, with forecasters warning of potential flash flooding and urging residents to exercise caution.

Parts of Southern Texas were placed under flood warnings, while other areas remained on high alert for possible flooding. The National Weather Service in Houston issued warnings of up to 8 inches of rainfall in certain regions, with heavy downpours expected to continue throughout the day. The aftermath of the storms could result in swollen rivers and prolonged flooding, posing a significant threat to the affected communities.

As of Sunday morning, the Harris County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management reported that over 200 individuals and 160 pets had been rescued in the county. The Weather Prediction Centre highlighted the risk of flash flooding in Central to Northeastern Texas, underscoring the urgent need for preparedness and vigilance.

The Harris County Flood Control District’s hydrological operations manager, Jeremy Justice, raised concerns about the possibility of record-level flooding in certain areas, reminiscent of the catastrophic impact of Hurricane Harvey in 2017. With eleven rivers in a major flooding stage and eighteen others experiencing moderate flooding, the situation remains dire and calls for swift action to ensure the safety of residents.
