Minneapolis, MN (RROC-AM News) – The victim of a fatal shooting in Minneapolis early Sunday has been identified as an off-duty firefighter from the Twin Cities Fire Department.
The City of Eagan released a statement today confirming that Joseph Johns, a dedicated firefighter, tragically lost his life while off duty. Johns had been a valued member of the Eagan Fire Department since 2015.
According to a report by the Minneapolis Police Department, the shooting took place around 12:40 a.m. in the 900 block of Cedar Avenue South. Police officers responded to a call reporting two individuals injured in a shooting incident.
Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement discovered a man in his 40s suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. Immediate medical attention was provided before the victim was rushed to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Another individual involved in the shooting arrived at HCMC in a private vehicle with non-life-threatening injuries.
Minneapolis police stated that preliminary investigations suggest that shots were fired at a group of people gathered in a parking lot, resulting in an exchange of gunfire. Homicide detectives are currently piecing together the events leading up to the tragic incident.
As of the latest update, no arrests have been made in connection with the case.
