SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Scranton Police Department (SPD) has reported that a man is now facing charges after allegedly threatening individuals with an AK-47 on Saturday night in Scranton.
According to a statement released by SPD on May 4, officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of Oram Street following reports of a man brandishing an AK-47 and making threats towards people.
The man in question was later identified as Elvis Nieves-Medina, aged 33, who was located at a residence on Oram Street when law enforcement arrived at the scene.
Upon police arrival, Nieves-Medina exited the property, dropping a rifle magazine and a set of keys before being apprehended by officers.
Authorities also discovered a loaded handgun concealed in Nieves-Medina’s waistband, which was promptly confiscated by law enforcement.
Further investigation led to the uncovering of a loaded AK-47 hidden under a duvet in the front bedroom on the third floor of the apartment.
Following interviews with residents at the scene, it was revealed that Elvis Nieves-Medina had allegedly menaced a family following a dispute outside their residence on Oram Street.
Court records indicate that Nieves-Medina engaged in an altercation with another male, departed the vicinity, and returned 15 minutes later armed with the AK-47.
Elvis Nieves-Medina now faces a series of charges, including terroristic threats, simple assault by threat, harassment, and reckless endangerment.
