The shooting took place in the vicinity of the Warren Franklin Residential Hall on the early morning of April 21. Responding officers discovered the victim, identified as 18-year-old Camay Mitchell De Silva from Wilmington, Delaware, with a gunshot wound to her upper body. Tragically, despite efforts to save her, De Silva succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital.

It was revealed that De Silva, a student at Morgan State University in Baltimore at the time, was visiting her best friend at DSU when the fatal shooting occurred. She had plans to transfer to DSU in the upcoming fall semester, aspiring to pursue a career in the cybersecurity field.

Reflecting on her daughter, Shanelle de Silva, expressed, “Camay never ceased to impress me. Everything she did, she did with such determination and passion, giving us a glimpse into her bright future that was unfortunately cut short.”

In response to the incident, a National Nonprofit, established in the aftermath of a mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas, offered a reward of up to $1,000 for any information leading to the arrest of the perpetrator.
