A church service in North Braddock, Pennsylvania, took a terrifying turn on Sunday when a man reportedly pulled out a gun and attempted to shoot the pastor during his sermon. The incident, which occurred at Jesus’ Dwelling Place Church, has left the community in shock and disbelief.
Authorities have identified the suspect as 26-year-old Bernard Junior Polite. According to reports from the Pennsylvania State Police, Polite entered the church and aimed his firearm at Pastor Glenn Germany while he was delivering his sermon. Fortunately, the gun malfunctioned, and Pastor Germany, along with a brave congregation member, were able to subdue and disarm Polite before any harm was done.
Pastor Germany recounted the harrowing experience, stating that Polite had smiled at him before attempting to attack. “I started to preach, and suddenly, I saw him move to the front of the church and point a gun at me. I had to run for cover,” he said. The pastor also praised the congregation member who risked his own life to protect others, calling him a hero.
After the incident, Polite was detained at the church until Pennsylvania State Police troopers arrived and took him into custody. Charges have been filed against him, and the investigation is ongoing. Details about Polite’s arraignment and legal representation are yet to be disclosed.
The Allegheny County Police Department later discovered a body in Polite’s residence, adding a chilling dimension to the already disturbing events. Detectives are now working to unravel the circumstances surrounding the deceased individual and any potential connections to the church incident.
The community is reeling from the shock of this violent episode that unfolded during what should have been a peaceful worship service. As the investigation progresses, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in bringing justice to those affected by this traumatic event.
