MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. — A man from Citronelle, identified as Autry Chandler Reed, was taken into custody by the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office after allegedly shooting his estranged wife’s new boyfriend on Friday. The incident took place on Boothtown Road, where deputies responded to a call in the 13000 block.
Details of the Incident
According to a news release from MCSO, the victim, Jeremy Kelley, sustained a gunshot wound to his left bicep from a shotgun fired by Reed. The estranged wife of Reed was the one who alerted authorities to the situation, stating that an argument between Reed and Kelley escalated, leading Reed to arm himself with a shotgun and fire at Kelley before fleeing the scene.
Law enforcement officials were able to locate Reed and apprehend him shortly after the incident. The shotgun used in the shooting was discovered in a nearby pond. Kelley was rushed to the hospital and is currently in critical but stable condition.
Legal Charges
Autry Chandler Reed is facing charges of first-degree assault and possession of a short-barrelled shotgun in connection with the shooting. The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into the matter.
