Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A former player from Kisumu All-Stars football club has been taken into custody for his involvement in a violent robbery and murder case of a 23-year-old businesswoman in the Kondele area of Kisumu.

The police in Kondele have uncovered crucial evidence, including an AK47 rifle and 36 rounds of ammunition, linking the former footballer, Byron Billy Owuor, to the crime that occurred in January this year.

Details of the crime

According to reports by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Owuor and his accomplice attacked the victim, identified as Ms Grace Awino Adero, while she was operating an M-Pesa shop in Kondele. The assailants robbed her and her husband of the day’s earnings and fatally shot Ms Adero. Fortunately, the husband managed to escape the attack.

The perpetrators, suspected to be part of a criminal gang, fled the scene on a motorcycle and regrouped at a hideout in Kasagam, Kisumu County.

Police investigation and arrests

The subsequent police investigation led to the discovery of an unmarked motorcycle and a suspicious saloon car abandoned by the suspects. Upon searching the vehicle, the authorities found an AK47 rifle, a homemade pistol, and several mobile phones.

Ballistic experts analysed the weapons and traced the origins of the rifle to Uganda. After months of evading capture, Owuor was finally apprehended by Kondele police at his hideout in Obunga, Kasarani.

During the arrest, authorities identified Robert Wakolo Okoth, also known as Michael Osama, as the alleged mastermind behind the criminal activities of the gang. A sting operation at Osama’s residence in Kasagam led to the arrest of his 17-year-old brother, who is believed to be a member of the gang.

Ongoing investigation and search for suspects

Despite the arrests, the prime suspect and the remaining members of the gang are still at large. The police continue to pursue leads and gather evidence to bring all those involved in the robbery and murder to justice.

The case serves as a reminder of the importance of thorough investigations and collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety and security of the community.
