A tragic incident unfolded in Bandala village of Ferozepur, where a 19-year-old youth named Bakshish Singh was mercilessly beaten to death after he allegedly tore some pages of the Guru Granth Sahib at a local gurdwara on Saturday, May 4.

Bakshish, a resident of Talli Gulam village, was reportedly suffering from mental health issues and was undergoing treatment for the same. His father, Lakhwinder Singh, has refuted the allegations of sacrilege and called for justice for his son’s brutal killing.

The police have filed an FIR against the deceased under section 295-A of the Indian Penal Code, which pertains to deliberate acts intended to outrage religious sentiments. The complaint was lodged by Lakhvir Singh, chairman of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Committee.

Outrage and Grief

Following the incident, Giani Raghbir Singh, the Jathedar of the Akal Takht, expressed deep sorrow over the sacrilege in Ferozepur. He condemned the lack of punishment for such crimes and called for exemplary actions to deter future sacrilegious acts.

Giani Raghbir Singh urged the Sikh community to socially and religiously boycott the family of the deceased youth and refrain from allowing his last rites to be conducted in any gurdwara. He highlighted the sanctity of the Guru Granth Sahib for Sikhs and emphasized the emotional impact of sacrilege on the community.

The Jathedar criticized the government’s failure to address and prevent such incidents, labeling them as part of a well-planned conspiracy. He stated that when the legal system fails to deliver justice, individuals are compelled to seek their own form of retribution.

Call for Justice

The sacrilegious act in Ferozepur has deeply wounded the sentiments of the Sikh community, prompting calls for swift and decisive action against the perpetrators. Giani Raghbir Singh reiterated the importance of upholding the sanctity of the Guru Granth Sahib and ensuring that such desecrations are met with severe consequences.

As the investigation into Bakshish Singh’s death continues, the community remains in mourning for the tragic loss of a young life amidst a backdrop of religious strife and communal tensions.
