Accident – Death – Obituary News : A recent ruling by a Canadian judge has classified the deliberate act of running over five members of a Muslim family in 2021 as “terrorist activity.” The incident, which took place in London, Ontario, resulted in the tragic deaths of four family members: Talat Afzaal, 74, Madiha Salman, 44, Salman Afzaal, 46, and Yumnah Afzaal, 15. A nine-year-old boy survived the attack. The family, originally from Pakistan, was targeted due to their Islamic faith.

In November, Nathaniel Veltman, now 23, was found guilty of first-degree murder by a jury. The local police confirmed that the attack was intentional and motivated by hate towards the victims’ religion. Justice Renee Pomerance, while delivering the verdict, refrained from naming the offender or repeating the hateful statements he made to the police, noting that his actions constituted terrorism.

The judge emphasized that there is no place in Canadian society for the hatred and racism that fueled Veltman’s actions. The relatives of the victims expressed their approval of the terrorism designation, acknowledging the deep-seated hatred that led to the tragic loss of their loved ones.

Pomerance described the attack on the Afzaal family as a clear example of terrorist motive and intent. She highlighted Veltman’s extremist beliefs, shaped by racist ideologies and consumption of hateful content online. As a result of his actions, Veltman has been sentenced to 25 years in prison without the possibility of parole.

This landmark ruling sends a strong message against hate crimes and emphasizes the importance of standing against prejudice and discrimination in society. The Afzaal family tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of intolerance and extremism..
