Accident – Death – Obituary News : Lebanon Valley Chamber of Commerce Presents Advanced Training Center Needs Assessment

The Lebanon Valley Chamber of Commerce recently hosted a presentation on the findings of its Advanced Training Center Needs Assessment. The presentation, held on Wednesday morning, gathered educators, local leaders, and elected officials to discuss the challenges and next steps involved in establishing a two-year training facility in Lebanon County.

During the presentation, Chamber President Karen Groh highlighted the historical context of the need for technical education in Lebanon County. She referenced a paragraph from the Trade and Technical Education Needs Report from 1960, which outlined the same need that the county is facing today.

Groh emphasised that the study confirmed the necessity of an advanced training center and paved the way for further action to be taken. She noted that while educational institutions like the Lebanon County Career and Technology Center and HACC were offering workforce training, there was still a gap that needed to be addressed.

Diane Harlow, the director of workforce and education at the chamber, pointed out that the target audience for an Advanced Training Center is post-high school education students. She highlighted the importance of keeping talent within the county by providing opportunities for education and employment locally.

The discussion also touched on the potential structure of an Advanced Training Center in Lebanon. While the exact model and location are yet to be determined, it is likely to offer 2-year career-focused programs and require partnerships with external institutions. Suggestions included expanding existing infrastructure at LCCTC or HACC, or partnering with institutions like Thaddeus Stevens College or Reading Area Community College.

Rep. John Schlegel stressed the need for community involvement in decision-making regarding the establishment of an Advanced Training Center. He highlighted the importance of local stakeholders, including school districts, in ongoing conversations about the project.

Overall, the presentation sparked a productive discussion about the future of technical education in Lebanon County. As plans for an Advanced Training Center continue to develop, collaboration and transparency will be key in ensuring its success..
