Authorities in Lyon County are currently conducting an investigation into a suspect who was involved in a series of alarming incidents.

According to Police Captain Ray Mattas, the incident unfolded just after 9 p.m. on Tuesday when law enforcement received a report of gunshots in the 700 block of Neosho Street in Emporia.

Upon arriving at the scene, several officers were deployed to pinpoint the source of the gunfire. It was during this search that a man, later identified as 33-year-old Juan Cervantes Jr., was discovered in the vicinity of the reported gunshots.

When approached by the officers, Cervantes attempted to evade capture by fleeing the scene. However, he was soon apprehended by the authorities in the 700 block of Rural.

During a subsequent search of the area, officers located several shell casings that corroborated the initial reports of gunfire. Additionally, a Lyon County Sheriff’s Office deputy, utilising a drone, was able to locate a discarded firearm in the vicinity.

Suspect Faces Multiple Charges

As a result of the investigation, Juan Cervantes Jr. is currently being held in the Lyon County Jail on a series of charges. These charges include Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm, Interference with a Law Enforcement Officer, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

The authorities are continuing their investigation into the matter in order to ascertain the full extent of Cervantes’ involvement in the incidents.
