Law enforcement officials in Fayetteville have successfully identified and apprehended the individual believed to be responsible for a recent shooting incident near Lake Fayetteville, which resulted in the death of one individual and injuries to four others. The suspect, identified as Gilberto Gordillo, 19, of Springdale, was taken into custody on Wednesday on charges of capital murder and attempted capital murder.

Gordillo, a resident of 1406 Powell St., Springdale, is currently being held at the Washington County jail on a bond of $750,000. His arraignment is scheduled for March 15 at the Washington County Circuit Court, where he could potentially face severe penalties, including the death penalty or life imprisonment without parole.

The tragic incident unfolded on the night of February 15, when Fayetteville police received reports of gunfire in the vicinity of Powell Street in Springdale and Lakeview Drive in Fayetteville. Upon arrival at the scene, authorities discovered the lifeless body of Christian Rodriguez-Barroso, 18, of Springdale, at 599 E. Lakeview Drive, near the Lake Fayetteville Environmental Studies Center.

Video footage captured by a nearby residence depicted a confrontation between two groups of individuals in the parking lot of the environmental studies center, which escalated into a physical altercation. The situation quickly escalated, with gunfire erupting and resulting in the fatal shooting of Rodriguez-Barroso.

Witnesses at the scene reported seeing Gordillo brandishing an AR-15 style rifle prior to the altercation, with multiple individuals identifying him as the individual responsible for firing shots in the direction of Rodriguez-Barroso. Following the incident, Gordillo was observed leaving the scene in a vehicle, with witnesses later recounting his admission of believing he had caused harm to someone during the altercation.

Further evidence, including testimonies from witnesses and surveillance footage, corroborated the involvement of Gordillo in the shooting incident. Medical attention was provided to the injured individuals, all of whom were between the ages of 18 and 20 and residents of Springdale.

As the investigation continues, authorities are working diligently to ensure that justice is served for the victims of this senseless act of violence. The community remains in mourning for the loss of Christian Rodriguez-Barroso and stands united in support of those affected by this tragedy.
