In a tragic incident in Offa town, Kwara State, the Fire Service recovered the body of a 49-year-old man and rescued a 17-year-old boy from a domestic well. The man, identified as Fasasi Afeez, and his son Kaleed Afeez of Gaa Jangbo, Igbonna Road Offa, fell into the well located in their residence.

The incident, which occurred at about 04:11 pm, was reported by a neighbour, Alhaji Taiye Gbadamosi, who called the Fire Service for assistance. According to reports, the teenage boy had gone to fetch water from the well when one of his legs slipped, causing him to fall into the well. In a desperate attempt to rescue his son, Fasasi Afeez also fell into the well.

Tragically, Fasasi Afeez did not survive the fall and was pronounced dead at the scene. However, the Fire Service was able to successfully rescue Kaleed Afeez, who was found alive in the well.

Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, expressed his sadness over the incident and urged the public to be cautious in their daily activities. He specifically highlighted the dangers of sending underage children to fetch water from domestic wells, emphasizing the need for safety precautions.

This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety measures, especially when it comes to handling domestic wells and ensuring the well-being of family members. The Fire Service’s prompt response and successful rescue of the teenage boy demonstrate the importance of emergency services in protecting lives and preventing tragedies.
