Crystal White : “Deadly Kansas Knife Attack Investigation”

DOUGLAS COUNTY—Authorities in Douglas County are currently investigating the tragic death of a woman and have a suspect in custody.

Law enforcement officials were called to the scene just after 4:30 a.m. on Thursday, where they discovered the lifeless body of a 51-year-old woman identified as Crystal White of Lawrence. The woman was found in a tent located just north of the city’s sanctioned camp near 100 Maple, close to the Kansas River in Lawrence. According to Laura McCabe, a spokesperson for the Police Department, the victim had apparent stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following the discovery, patrol officers immediately began interviewing witnesses, while the investigations unit and other specialized units were deployed to gather evidence. A suspect was swiftly identified, and an extensive area canvass was conducted. The Lawrence Police Unoccupied Aerial Vehicle (Drone) and Patrol Service Dog Units were also brought in to assist with the investigation.

By approximately 9:00 a.m., law enforcement personnel located a person of interest in Burcham Park and took him into custody for further questioning. The investigative teams are currently working tirelessly to sift through the evidence, speak with witnesses and acquaintances, and gather crucial information to piece together the events leading to the woman’s untimely death.

Despite the ongoing investigation, authorities have stated that they do not believe there is an immediate threat to the community related to this particular incident.
