Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Virginia State Police are currently investigating a devastating crash that occurred in Wythe County on the evening of Feb. 21, resulting in the untimely death of a pedestrian. The incident took place on W. Lee Highway, where a GMC truck towing a box trailer was involved in a collision with a pedestrian pushing a grocery cart.

According to reports from VSP, the tragic accident took place at approximately 7:40 p.m. along the 2900 block of W. Lee Highway. The pedestrian, identified as 66-year-old Worley J. Stafford from Rural Retreat, tragically lost his life at the scene of the crash.

Despite efforts to avoid the collision, the driver of the GMC truck sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Challenges of the Road

One of the key factors highlighted by VSP in their preliminary investigation is the absence of shoulders or sidewalks in the vicinity where the accident occurred. This lack of pedestrian infrastructure may have contributed to the tragic outcome of the collision, underscoring the importance of road safety measures and infrastructure development in preventing such incidents in the future.

Updates on the case are expected to be released in the coming days, and WFXR News remains committed to providing the latest developments as they unfold.
