A woman has been apprehended in Navi Mumbai for allegedly managing a prostitution operation at a shopping complex in Maharashtra’s Navi Mumbai, as per the local police department. The 40-year-old suspect was purportedly overseeing the illicit business from a spa situated within the well-known mall in the Vashi district. Authorities have successfully rescued two individuals who were coerced into engaging in the sex trade by the accused.
Following a tip-off provided by an informant, law enforcement officials dispatched an undercover agent to the spa on Tuesday evening. Upon investigation, two young women, approximately 20 years old, were discovered working at the establishment under duress to partake in the sex industry, stated Prithviraj Ghorpade, the senior police inspector at the Navi Mumbai anti-human trafficking unit.
The suspect, who was found in charge of the spa and allegedly involved in facilitating prostitution, was promptly taken into custody by the authorities. The two victims were subsequently relocated to a safe shelter where they are currently residing.
Police Investigation and Legal Action
An inquiry has been launched by the police, and a case has been registered against the accused woman under section 370 (trafficking of persons), section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and relevant provisions of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.
Previous Prostitution Racket Incident
In a separate incident, two individuals were arrested, and a 14-year-old girl from Bangladesh was rescued from a prostitution ring in Navi Mumbai the previous week. Law enforcement officials conducted a raid on a residential complex in the Taloja area of the city following a lead from an informant and successfully extricated the young girl.
“Two suspects, identified as Samon Shaikh and Mohinoor Mandal, were apprehended, and a 14-year-old girl from Bangladesh was rescued. A case has been filed under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act,” stated Sub Inspector Suresh Kurhade of the Taloja police station.
