BRIDGEVILLE, Del. – An intense police pursuit unfolded in Sussex County, Delaware, resulting in the apprehension of a male suspect on various felony charges.

According to the Delaware State Police Department, the dramatic incident transpired shortly after midnight on Tuesday when vigilant troopers observed a vehicle swerving along John J. Williams Highway in the vicinity of Banks Road.

Despite law enforcement’s attempt to signal the driver to pull over, the individual refused to comply and initiated a high-speed chase that spanned from Millsboro to Bridgeville.

The chase culminated on South Main Street in Bridgeville, where police successfully intercepted the car. The driver, identified as 41-year-old Lee Books, along with a female passenger, were swiftly taken into custody.

A thorough search of the vehicle uncovered a Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun equipped with a 15-inch barrel, brass knuckles, a 6-inch fixed blade knife, a woman’s wallet containing drug paraphernalia, approximately 56.57 grams of GHB (Gamma-Hydroxybutyrate), and additional drug-related items.

The female passenger faced charges of possessing drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor offense, and was subsequently released.

Books was formally arraigned on a plethora of felony charges and remanded to the Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of a $36,415 cash bond.
