One of the 16 children rescued in Kayole reunited with family

One of the 16 children who were rescued from a house in Soweto, Kayole on Monday has been reunited with her family. Njiru area DCI boss Simon Waithaka said investigations are ongoing, with some of the cases dating back to 2018.

This heartwarming reunion comes amidst a wave of emotions as parents flocked to the Kayole police station seeking answers about their missing children. James Maina from Kirinyaga County, who visited the station, shared his anguish as his child went missing in 2021.

However, the process has not been without its challenges. Parents of missing children have decried the lack of coordination in the identification process. Gabriel Mungai, a concerned parent, questioned the authorities about the lack of concrete information and the inability to meet the rescued children.

Authorities suspect that the 16 children were victims of a potential trafficking scheme, intended to transport them to an unknown location. As investigations intensify, two suspects, identified as Linet Akinyi and Tanzanian national Isaack Mwanjeka, remain in custody awaiting the mention of the case on February 29.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of community vigilance and swift action in protecting vulnerable children from exploitation and harm.
