Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies have arrested a 47-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman in connection with the death of a man found on the side of a road in Marion County in June. The victim, identified as 41-year-old Wayne Barlow, was discovered on the 7600 block of NW 77th Terrace near West Highway 326 on June 27, 2023.
Suspicious Circumstances Surrounding the Death
Initially, deputies responded to a report of a dead person on the side of the road, and Barlow’s death was deemed suspicious. However, further investigation revealed that his death was the result of a gunshot wound to the head, evidence of strangulation, and blunt force trauma.
Arrests Made in Connection with the Murder
Michael Rene Montgomery Jr. and Jessica Long have been charged in connection with Barlow’s death. According to authorities, Long and Montgomery had planned to steal Barlow’s vehicle. Long drove while Montgomery reportedly attacked Barlow, resulting in a struggle. Montgomery then pulled Barlow from the vehicle and assaulted him with a pipe-like object. Witnesses reported that Montgomery attempted to run over Barlow before ultimately shooting him.
Murder During the Commission of a Robbery
Based on witness accounts and evidence, Detective Stith concluded that Long and Montgomery committed the act of murder during the commission of a robbery. Both suspects are facing charges of murder while engaged in a robbery. They are currently being held in the Marion County Jail without bond.
