A man convicted of raping and murdering a 3.5-year-old girl has been handed the death penalty by a court in Gurugram, India. The convict, identified as Sunil, was also fined Rs 50,000 by the court.
The POCSO Court Judge Shashi Chauhan, who presided over the case, ordered a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to be paid to the victim’s family. The tragic incident took place on November 11, 2018, when the young girl went missing from outside her home in Gurugram.
Details of the Case
The victim’s father filed a complaint with the Sector-65 police station, alleging that Sunil lured his daughter away on the pretext of buying goods from a shop. When the parents returned home from work, they were informed by neighbours that Sunil had taken their daughter with him.
Despite their efforts to locate her, the girl was found dead the following day in the bushes near a temple. The police conducted a thorough investigation and arrested Sunil in connection with the crime. It was later revealed that Sunil had a history of similar offences in Madhya Pradesh.
Court Proceedings
During the court proceedings, CCTV footage and witness testimonies played a crucial role in establishing Sunil’s guilt. The District Attorney, Dharmender Rana, argued for the case to be classified as extremely rare and requested a severe punishment for the culprit.
