Shannon Gooden : Search Warrant Reveals Fatal Incident Details

BURNSVILLE, Minn. (FOX 9) – A recently released search warrant has shed light on the events leading up to the tragic shooting at a Burnsville residence that resulted in the deaths of two police officers and a firefighter-paramedic.

On the fateful day of February 18, authorities were called to a domestic disturbance that quickly escalated when the suspect, later identified as Shannon Gooden, opened fire, tragically claiming the lives of Burnsville Police Officer Paul Elmstrand, Officer Matthew Ruge, and Firefighter-Paramedic Adam Finseth. Burnsville Police Sgt. Adam Medlicott also sustained injuries during the incident.

Details from the search warrant reveal that police responded to a report of a sexual assault allegation at the address 12605 33rd Ave. at 1:50 a.m. on February 18. Upon arrival, authorities made contact with the individual who reported the allegation and Gooden, who then retreated into a bedroom and barricaded himself.

The warrant further states that despite negotiations for Gooden to surrender, he refused to cooperate and instead opened fire at the officers with multiple firearms, resulting in the tragic loss of Elmstrand, Ruge, and Finseth. Gooden was later located dead in the bedroom from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

In a heartbreaking twist, it was revealed that there were seven children present in the home at the time of the shooting, but thankfully, they were unharmed. The biological mother of three of the children was identified as Noemi Torres, who confessed to being in communication with Gooden’s girlfriend during or after the incident.

Investigators have seized Torres’ cell phone as evidence to potentially uncover vital communication between Gooden and Torres, providing insights into Gooden’s state of mind leading up to the tragic events.
