Accident – Death – Obituary News :

New court documents obtained by the ABC11 I-Team shed light on the harrowing details of a deadly high-speed crash that claimed the life of 20-year-old University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill student, Molly Rotunda.

The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of January 21 on NC Highway 54 near West Barbee Chapel Road, where Rotunda lost her life.

The case has taken a new turn with ten individuals facing charges, with at least three of them being members of the UNC football team.

According to the latest court documents, UNC sophomore offensive lineman Zach Rice was allegedly speeding and tailing the vehicle in which Rotunda was a passenger, maintaining a dangerously close distance of 15 yards.

Previous revelations from the documents indicated that the car Rotunda was travelling in was clocked at a staggering 124 mph in a 45 mph zone, painting a grim picture of the events leading up to the fatal crash.

Rice, aged 20, now faces charges related to underage drinking, driving, and speeding, adding another layer of complexity to the already tragic incident.

The court paperwork reveals that a group of individuals had been partying at the Chapel Hill bar Still Life prior to the crash, with allegations suggesting that UNC football player Travis Shaw, 19, purchased three bottles of Casamigos Tequila for the group.

Reports indicate that shots were poured for everyone in the group, including the driver, 21-year-old Flemeeja Brewer, who has also been charged in connection with the incident.

Further documents reveal additional charges brought against several employees of Still Life, intensifying the legal ramifications of the tragedy.

In a recent development, Alcohol Law Enforcement (ALE) has charged seven individuals for their involvement, including serving alcohol to individuals under 21, further complicating the legal landscape surrounding the case.

Despite repeated requests for comment, neither Rice nor UNC Athletics have responded to ABC11’s inquiries, while Still Life, the bar implicated in the sale of alcohol to minors, has remained silent on the matter.
