Authorities have identified the body found near Amana Lily Lake over the weekend as that of a Marion woman, Melody Hoffman, aged 20.

Suspect in Custody on Serious Charges
A man from Hiawatha, 23-year-old McKinley Louisma, is currently in the Linn County jail facing charges of first-degree kidnapping and conspiracy to commit forcible felony in connection to Hoffman’s death.
Court documents reveal chilling details of the events leading up to Hoffman’s death. Louisma allegedly picked her up at 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, before a series of horrific events unfolded.
Technological Evidence Used in Investigation
Investigators utilised data from Hoffman’s iPhone and Apple Watch to piece together a timeline of events leading to her tragic demise.
According to the investigation, Hoffman’s Apple Watch recorded a sudden increase in her heartbeat at Morgan Creek Park in Linn County, before the device either stopped or was deactivated.
Gruesome Details Emerge
Louisma confessed to authorities that he and another individual bound Hoffman’s wrists with duct tape, before placing her in the trunk of a car and driving to various locations, ultimately ending up at Lily Lake in Amana.
Hoffman reportedly pleaded to be released, but was subjected to physical assault and sustained multiple stab wounds during the ordeal. The Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office has determined that the preliminary cause of death was strangulation.
Prior Criminal History of the Suspect
Louisma’s criminal history includes involvement in two previous investigations related to violent offences. One case involved sexual assault in Manchester, while the other accused Louisma of causing serious injury to a man in Cedar Rapids.
