Accident – Death – Obituary News :

PORT ST. LUCIE, Florida — A 48-year-old woman, Jennifer Scee, has been sentenced to 36 months in prison after pleading guilty to an attempted robbery at a drugstore in Port St. Lucie last year. The Department of Justice announced the sentencing on Tuesday.

Scee, a resident of Port St. Lucie, was arrested after she demanded prescription drugs at gunpoint from Aster Discount Pharmacy. She entered the store on April 21, 2023, and held an employee at gunpoint, demanding Dilaudid, an opioid.

Despite being told that the pharmacy did not have the drug, Scee jumped over the counter and pointed the handgun at the victim. When the victim raised the alarm, Scee fled the scene in a gray Honda Civic coupe.

Port St. Lucie police officers were able to identify Scee through video surveillance footage from the plaza where the pharmacy is located. The footage showed Scee wearing a long-sleeved white shirt, black leggings, a black hat, and a surgical mask covering her face.

Further investigation revealed that a 2004 Honda Civic Coupe registered to Scee was seen entering and leaving the parking lot at the plaza around the time of the robbery. Scee was subsequently arrested at her residence in Port St. Lucie.

Legal Proceedings and Charges

Scee pleaded guilty to charges of robbery with a firearm and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon on November 15, 2023. She was sentenced by District Judge Donald M. Middlebrooks in West Palm Beach and was also ordered to serve three years of supervised release.

She was prosecuted under the federal Hobbs Act, which prohibits actual or attempted robbery or extortion affecting interstate or foreign commerce. The act aims to combat violent crimes that impact businesses and individuals across state lines.

Project Safe Neighborhoods

This case was part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that aims to reduce violent crime and enhance community safety. PSN brings together law enforcement agencies at all levels to develop strategies to target violent criminals and make neighbourhoods safer.

In 2017, the program was revitalised as part of the Department of Justice’s renewed focus on combating violent crime. U.S. Attorney’s Offices collaborate with federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies to implement effective strategies to reduce violent crime in communities.

Overall, the sentencing of Jennifer Scee sends a strong message that violent crime will not be tolerated in Port St. Lucie and highlights the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of residents.
