LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) – A disturbing road rage incident in Laredo has left one man hospitalized and a 19-year-old arrested on charges of assault and injury to the elderly.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, February 13th, when a collision occurred between two vehicles attempting to exit Loop 20 near the City Hall Annex. Although the initial parties involved in the crash pulled over, the situation quickly escalated when the boyfriend of one of the drivers, who had witnessed the incident but was not directly involved, stopped as well.
According to Laredo police, the altercation turned physical when the 19-year-old, identified as Hector Garcia, began assaulting the 49-year-old driver. The victim’s father, who was in his late 70s, attempted to intervene and break up the fight but ended up being assaulted as well. The elderly man reportedly sustained multiple kicks while on the ground.
In addition to the charges of assault and injury to the elderly, Garcia also faces a criminal mischief charge for destroying a cell phone during the altercation.
The violent nature of the incident has shocked the local community, prompting calls for greater awareness and prevention of road rage incidents. Authorities urge individuals to remain calm and avoid confrontations on the road to prevent similar incidents in the future.
