A New Jersey woman, Domonique Preston, aged 45, has been taken into custody on murder and weapon charges following a tragic incident in Hunterdon County. The arrest took place in the early hours of Wednesday morning after authorities responded to a distressing 911 call reporting a possible stabbing at a residence in the 100 block of Manchester Road in Raritan Township, approximately 60 miles southwest of Lower Manhattan.
Upon arrival at the scene just after 1:30 a.m., officers discovered the lifeless body of a 66-year-old man, identified as Steven Spivey, who had sustained a fatal stab wound. Both Preston and Spivey were residents of the shared home, as confirmed by Timothy Drew, spokesperson for the prosecutor’s office.
The exact nature of the relationship between Preston and Spivey remains unclear at this time, as reported by NJ.com. Preston was promptly arrested at the scene and charged with first-degree murder, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.
Currently, Preston is being held at the Warren County Correctional Center awaiting her initial court appearance scheduled for later on Wednesday. The Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office has already filed a motion to keep her detained pre-trial.
In the state of New Jersey, a first-degree murder charge carries a mandatory prison sentence ranging from 30 years to life. Third-degree charges may result in imprisonment for three to five years and a fine of up to £15,000, while fourth-degree charges could lead to a maximum of 18 months in prison and a fine of up to £10,000, as outlined by the prosecutor’s office.
