1. 18-year-olds involved in Spokane shooting and chase
2. Spokane jail inmates linked to shooting and high-speed pursuit.
Accident – Death – Obituary News :
Three teenagers, aged 18, are currently held in Spokane County jail on bonds worth $500,000 each for their alleged involvement in a car chase and fatal shooting near the University District on February 16.
Christopher Gimmaka, Kaden Willoughby, and Devin McEwen, all 18 years old, are facing charges of conspiracy to commit robbery, attempted robbery, and assault. McEwen, who was driving the car, is also facing a charge for attempting to elude police.
Court documents reveal that the trio is accused of stealing a man’s tools from one of his vehicles in the early hours of Sunday, February 11. The victim reported seeing them on his ring camera the following night, prowling around his cars once again.
The victim, who wishes to remain anonymous, stated, “The moment they started prowling my house, watching us every day, the property theft became a safety hazard for me, my family, and everyone else.”
The victim found the stolen items listed on Facebook Marketplace, along with a car for sale that matched the one the suspects were in on his ring camera footage. He then had a co-worker contact the sellers after informing Crime Check.
Upon responding to the sellers on Friday, a meeting was arranged at 1:30 p.m. to inspect the tools in a parking lot near Andrew Rypien Field. The victim identified Gimmaka, Willoughby, McEwen, an unnamed 16-year-old boy, and a woman referred to as “Sally” in court documents inside the car.
According to the victim, four out of the five suspects immediately put on ski masks upon their arrival. The victim noted, “They weren’t smart… they were trying to hide their identity after they had already realized that we had seen them.”
The victim expressed to the teenagers that wearing masks seemed odd given they were there to view the tools. He later told NonStop Local that he suspected they were planning a robbery. Gimmaka’s statement about not having tools in the car, as per police, indicated premeditation of a robbery.
As the suspects started to drive away, the victim’s father pursued them, with the victim providing updates to the police over the phone. Shots were fired at the victim during the chase through northwest Spokane, and weapon magazines were thrown out of the vehicle as police pursued them.
The chase ended near Hamilton and Springfield after a pit maneuver by a Spokane Police Department officer. McEwen reported that “Sally” spoke to him, asking if they were going to be okay and if he wanted to go with her. Before he could respond, McEwen indicated that “Sally” shot herself.
Court documents also revealed that Gimmaka admitted to law enforcement that he was under the influence of methamphetamine at the time of his arrest. All three adult suspects are currently detained in Spokane County on $500,000 bonds.
