LAVONIA, G.A. Woman Arrested After High-Speed Chase Ending at Georgia Graveyard
In a dramatic turn of events, a woman has been apprehended following a high-speed chase that spanned two states and ended at a cemetery in Lavonia, Georgia.
Police Patrol Leads to Pursuit
The incident began when the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office spotted a dark blue Scion with a Georgia license plate during a routine patrol on West Bennett Road near Westminister. Authorities suspected that the vehicle was involved in a recent shoplifting incident at a local business the day before.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as 23-year-old Cheyenne Nicole Moore from West Union, initially complied with the deputies but it was soon discovered that her driver’s license was suspended and she had outstanding warrants for possession of methamphetamine and a magistrate warrant from the city of Walhalla.
Attempted Arrest Escalates into Chase
As deputies moved to arrest Moore, she suddenly accelerated the vehicle, almost dragging a deputy along in her desperate attempt to flee. A high-speed chase ensued, leading through various local roads and onto Highway 11 before crossing into Georgia on Interstate 85 southbound.
Moore eventually exited the interstate at Highway 17, where the pursuit came to a crashing halt at a cemetery on Arlington Drive in Lavonia. In her frantic attempt to escape, Moore damaged several graves before being apprehended by law enforcement.
Legal Proceedings and Investigation
Following the incident, Moore’s vehicle was handed over to the Georgia State Patrol as she remains in custody in Franklin County, awaiting extradition to South Carolina. The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office has not disclosed the specific charges against her at this time, as the investigation into the case continues.
