Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Authorities have identified the motorist who struck an Amish buggy in southern Minnesota last week, fled the scene, and left injured children behind. The driver has been identified as a 32-year-old woman with a concerning driving history.

The collision occurred around 10 p.m. on Friday on County Road 1 near Spring Valley. The incident resulted in injuries to six of the nine occupants of the horse-drawn buggy, with two of them sustaining serious injuries. A search warrant affidavit filed by the Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office on Monday sought permission to collect evidence from the driver’s car and her cellphone.

Brittany Nicole Edgar, a resident of nearby Kasson, was pulled over by a sheriff’s deputy 6 miles south of the crash scene. The deputy noticed severe front-end damage to Edgar’s car, with one headlight out and taillights not illuminated. Edgar initially claimed that she had hit a deer on her way back to Spring Valley, and the deputy allowed her to continue her journey. However, deputies later found her car at a home in Spring Valley, where Edgar admitted to hitting an Amish buggy.

Efforts to reach Edgar for comment on the allegations made in the court filing have been unsuccessful. As of now, no charges have been filed against her.

Court records reveal that Edgar has prior convictions for drug offenses, drunken driving, a lane violation, disobeying a traffic control device, speeding, and careless driving. This incident is not the first involving a collision between a motor vehicle and an Amish buggy in the area.

In a separate incident on County Road 1 near Spring Valley in September, twins were charged with swapping identities in an attempt to conceal who was driving an SUV that struck an Amish buggy, resulting in the deaths of two children. The twins, Sarah Beth Petersen and Samantha Jo Petersen, face multiple charges in connection with the incident.

Another incident in February involved an Amish family in a horse-drawn buggy colliding with a teenage driver in east-central Minnesota. The crash resulted in injuries to the Amish couple and their four young children, while the teenage driver, Hayden Lind, escaped unharmed. Charges against Lind have yet to be filed.
