SEDGWICK COUNTY — Benjamin Brady, the man who abducted a 6-year-old Kansas girl, has been sentenced to 4 years and 8 months in prison by Judge Eric Williams, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s office.
The incident took place in November 2022 when police responded to a report of an auto theft and kidnapping in a liquor store parking lot in the 2300 block of N. Amidon in Wichita, as reported by Officer Trevor Macy.
Brady, a 35-year-old man, stole a gold/tan Lexus Rx330 with the 6-year-old girl still inside while her father was inside the store. The father immediately reported the incident to the authorities.
Law enforcement officers quickly sprang into action, utilizing Flock cameras and License Plate Reader (LPR) technology to track the vehicle, which was headed south on the Kansas Turnpike.
Authorities notified neighbouring counties, the Kansas Highway Patrol, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, and the Tulsa Police Department about the situation and the vehicle’s last known location. Troopers from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol managed to intercept the car approximately 22 miles south of the Kansas/Oklahoma state line and safely recovered the girl.
Brady was apprehended by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and taken into custody. He was subsequently booked into the Kay County, Oklahoma jail.
Following his arrest, Brady pleaded guilty to attempted kidnapping and felony theft charges.
