MILAM COUNTY, Texas — A dramatic multi-city pursuit that originated in Bell County on Saturday night culminated in Milam County with the apprehension of a suspect following reports of a kidnapping involving a woman and a baby.

Authorities stated that in response to a call in Bell County, a male suspect, identified as 27-year-old Paul Rodriguez, fled in a vehicle with a female and a baby onboard.

The pursuit spanned several cities, starting from Temple, passing through Rogers and Buckholts, and finally reaching the western city limits of Cameron. The suspect vehicle managed to evade multiple spike attempts before driving into a field and eventually into a stock pond.

Upon reaching the pond, Rodriguez abandoned the vehicle on foot, leaving the female and the baby behind. Fortunately, both victims were safely rescued from the vehicle in the pond.

A collaborative effort involving Temple police, the Milam County Sheriff’s Office, Texas DPS troopers, and Texas Parks and Wildlife game wardens was initiated to locate the suspect. Authorities utilized a sheriff’s office drone equipped with thermal imaging cameras to track the suspect’s movements as he attempted to evade capture.

Rodriguez crossed two fences and approached an unoccupied property before deputies successfully apprehended him as he tried to gain entry into the home.

During the arrest process, Rodriguez experienced a medical emergency and became unresponsive, prompting the administration of multiple doses of Narcan before AMR emergency medical services arrived on the scene.

Following treatment at the hospital, Rodriguez was subsequently booked into Bell County Jail on Monday after being discharged. It was later discovered that he had multiple drugs in his system at the time of his apprehension.

Temple police have levied charges against Rodriguez, including kidnapping, evading arrest in a vehicle, and child endangerment.

A statement released by Milam County Sheriff Mike Clore commended the collaborative efforts of all agencies involved in the successful rescue of the two victims. Sheriff Clore highlighted the instrumental role played by the drone equipped with thermal imaging cameras in aiding the capture of the suspect, emphasizing its value as an additional tool for public safety enforcement.
