(LONDON) — A student has been apprehended on Monday in relation to a double homicide at the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs, as confirmed by officials.

Nicholas Jordan, aged 25, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the tragic deaths of two individuals who were discovered shot in a dormitory on Friday, according to the Colorado Springs police. Jordan was located in a vehicle early on Monday and was peacefully taken into custody in Colorado Springs, as detailed by the police.

Originally from Detroit, Jordan is a student at the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs, as stated by a university representative.

The authorities have indicated that the shootings seemed to be “an isolated incident involving individuals who were familiar with each other and not a random assault against the institution or other students.”

The victims have been identified as 26-year-old Celie Rain Montgomery of Pueblo, Colorado, and 24-year-old Samuel Knopp of Parker, Colorado, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department.

Knopp was enrolled as a student at the university while Montgomery was not currently registered, as per police reports.

Speaking about Knopp, student Gibson Marable described him as an “uplifting” person and “probably the best musician on campus,” in an interview with ABC News.

“We are profoundly shocked as we come to terms with this tragic loss of two lives,” expressed university Chancellor Jennifer Sobanet during a press briefing. “My heart is shattered for the victims of today’s senseless violence.”
