In a shocking turn of events, the UCCS Police were called to respond to reports of gunshots in a dorm room on February 16th in Grand Junction, Colorado. Upon arrival, they quickly called in the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) to take over the investigation of what turned out to be a double homicide.
On February 17th, the El Paso Coroners Office conducted autopsies on the two victims found in the UCCS dorm room. The deceased individuals were identified as Celie Rain Montgomery, a 26-year-old woman from Pueblo, CO, and Samuel Knopp, a 24-year-old man from Parker, CO. The cause and manner of their deaths have yet to be determined, and the investigation is ongoing.
Knopp, a senior studying music and a member of the Visual and Performing Arts Department at UCCS, was known for his passion for music. On the other hand, Montgomery was not a registered student at the university at the time of her tragic death, according to CSPD press release.
In a swift turn of events, on February 19th, the CSPD arrested a suspect in connection with the double homicide. The suspect, identified as Nicholas Jordan, a 25-year-old individual from Detroit, MI, was located by the CSPD Motor Vehicle Theft Unit in a vehicle. Jordan, who was enrolled at UCCS, had an arrest warrant issued by the CSPD Homicide Unit.
Shortly after being located, the CSPD’s Tactical Enforcement Unit responded and apprehended Jordan. He is currently in custody at the El Paso County Jail. If convicted, Jordan will be facing two counts of Murder in the First Degree.
