Accident – Death – Obituary News :

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KXRM/AP) — The University of Colorado-Colorado Springs was rocked by a tragic incident last week when two individuals were found dead in a dorm room. The Colorado Springs Police Department has announced that a student, Nicholas Jordan, 25, has been arrested on two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the shootings.

According to university spokesperson Jenna Press, Jordan, originally from Detroit, was a student at the university at the time of the incident on Friday, Feb. 16. The victims have been identified as Celie Rain Montgomery, 26, and Samuel Knopp, 24. While Knopp was a student at the university, Montgomery was not currently enrolled.

After obtaining an arrest warrant, the police’s motor vehicle theft unit located Jordan in a car, and the tactical enforcement unit took him into custody without incident in Colorado Springs. The police have emphasized that this was an isolated incident between individuals who knew each other and not a random attack on the university.

Police Investigation and Campus Response

Authorities were alerted early Friday morning about shots fired from Creston House, the university’s dormitory, where they discovered the two victims deceased. The coroner’s office will determine the cause of death, but it has been revealed that each victim was shot at least once.

Following the shooting, a campus-wide lockdown was implemented for 90 minutes, and the university remained closed for the day and throughout the weekend. Monday classes have been canceled to provide support to students and staff through walk-in counseling services.

Despite the tragedy, the UCCS community came together for a memorial walk on Monday to honor the lives lost. The university, with over 11,000 students and nearly 2,000 faculty and staff, is reeling from the impact of this senseless violence.

Legal Proceedings and Support Services

At this time, it is unclear if Jordan has legal representation to comment on his behalf. Court records for the case are not yet available, and no hearing has been scheduled. The university is working to provide resources and support to those affected by the incident.

As the investigation continues, the UCCS community remains united in mourning the loss of Montgomery and Knopp. The police are urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
