QUASQUETON, Iowa (KCRG) – In the early hours of February 18th, 2024, a devastating residential fire broke out in the 700 block of E Cedar Street in Quasqueton, Iowa. Emergency responders rushed to the scene following a distress call.
Upon arrival, a Deputy observed flames engulfing the windows and soffit of the home. Concerned bystanders informed the Deputy that a female resident, identified as 69-year-old Kathryn Marie Crawford, lived in the house and that the fire appeared to have originated from her bedroom.
Despite efforts to enter the property, the intense heat and smoke prevented immediate access. It wasn’t until the arrival of fire crews that the blaze was brought under control. Tragically, Ms. Crawford was found inside the residence and, despite life-saving attempts, she was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The exact cause of the fire is currently under investigation by authorities in Quasqueton. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family and friends of Kathryn Marie Crawford during this difficult time.
