The informant disclosed that the suspect had warned them to vacate the premises and expressed concerns about the individual’s access to sharp and metallic objects within the establishment.
The officers proceeded to confront the suspect, identified as 36-year-old Jason Maccani, inside the business, instructing him to exit the premises and raise his hands. However, the situation quickly escalated when Maccani allegedly charged towards the officers with a white object in his right hand, which appeared to be a knife. Despite the officers’ attempts to subdue Maccani using non-lethal methods, the suspect continued to advance towards them, leading to an Officer-Involved Shooting.
Tragically, it was later discovered that the white object Maccani was holding was not a knife but a plastic fork. Following the gunfire exchange, Maccani was apprehended, treated at the scene, and subsequently transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. During the altercation, a supervisor sustained a hand injury and was promptly treated at a medical facility before being discharged.
