The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office has been busy responding to various incidents in the area. Here are some of the recent reports:

Shoplifting Incident at Walmart

On February 4, Deputy Devan Blair was called to Walmart for a shoplifting incident. A man had attempted to steal $879 worth of merchandise and made a run for it when confronted. His female companion, waiting in a Toyota outside, also tried to flee the scene. The man, a 27-year-old from Greenville, S.C., explained that he had just met the woman that day and was driven to Georgia by her. Despite his plea to avoid jail time, he was apprehended by the deputy.

Cracked Windshield Leads to Arrest

Deputy Scotty Bodie and Cpl. Lex Ogan stopped a vehicle with a cracked windshield on Epps Bridge Parkway on February 2. The driver, a 43-year-old Athens man, was found to have a suspended license due to a previous DUI conviction and outstanding child support payments, leading to his arrest.

Suspicious Character at North Oconee High School

On February 5, Cpl. Pat Holl and deputies responded to a report of a suspicious person at North Oconee High School. The man, reported to possibly be carrying a gun, was found to be searching for a lost cell phone. Despite not possessing a weapon, he was arrested for possession of methamphetamine.

Shoplifting Incident Involving a Pregnant Woman

Deputy Ryan Buzzard apprehended a 42-year-old pregnant woman from Greensboro on February 6 for shoplifting at Walmart. The woman attempted to scan merchandise using a fake price tag, leading to her arrest.

Burglary Arrest of Florida Man

Deputy Annessa Glenn and deputies responded to a report of a suspicious man knocking on doors along Oliver Bridge Road on February 6. The man, identified as a 44-year-old resident of Doral, Florida, was found to have entered a home, made himself a cup of hot chocolate, and confronted by residents before being taken into custody on burglary charges.

Arrest of Wanted Man for Terroristic Threats

Cpl. Lex Ogan arrested a man wanted for terroristic threats on February 7 after receiving a FLOCK notification. The man had threatened harm to a woman at Walmart on February 4 and was taken into custody upon entering Oconee County.

Assault Incident Involving a Gun

Deputy Boris Argueta and deputies responded to an assault incident on February 8 where a man with a gun was reported. The victim, assaulted by his brother over false accusations, managed to escape and call for help. The suspect was apprehended with the assistance of law enforcement.

DUI Arrest on Simtonton Bridge Road

Cpl. Dylan Pulliam arrested a man for DUI on February 9 after finding him asleep at the wheel on Simtonton Bridge Road. The man, showing signs of intoxication, refused sobriety tests and questioned his arrest, leading to his apprehension.
