A shocking incident unfolded in Franklin County, Ohio, as body camera footage captured the moments leading up to a police officer being stabbed in the head with a homemade knife.

The events unfolded in Mifflin Township on Sunday night when officers responded to a call from a man who reported a driver behaving erratically while he attempted to assist with jump-starting his car, as reported by WBNS in Columbus.

Upon arrival, body camera footage showed an officer engaging with the driver, later identified as 36-year-old Bryan Benjamin, who required assistance with jump-starting his vehicle. Despite repeated requests for identification, Benjamin ignored the officer while attempting to push his car.

After verifying Benjamin’s identity and discovering an outstanding arrest warrant, the officer confronted him, leading to a confrontation. Subsequently, Benjamin allegedly attacked the officer with a makeshift knife, resulting in multiple stab wounds.

Additional officers swiftly arrived on the scene and apprehended Benjamin, who was still holding the knife when taken into custody. Despite sustaining serious injuries, the officer is expected to recover, according to WBNS.

Bryan Benjamin now faces charges of felonious assault in connection with the incident.
