Two teenagers were apprehended early Sunday morning in Frenchtown Township after allegedly fleeing from a sheriff’s lieutenant in a stolen vehicle. The 13-year-old driver was taken into custody and lodged at the Monroe County Youth Center on charges of fleeing police and receiving and concealing stolen property. The 14-year-old passenger was released to his guardian pending warrant authorization from the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office, according to a news release from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident unfolded around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday when Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputy Brett Thomas responded to a stolen vehicle complaint in the 7800 block of Kimberly Drive in Frenchtown Township. The victim reported that his black 2009 Dodge Charger had been stolen from his driveway within the past hour.

At 4:39 a.m., Lt. Brian Sroka spotted a black Dodge Charger matching the stolen vehicle description at North Telegraph Road and Mall Road in Frenchtown Township. Sroka attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the car fled northbound on Telegraph Road. The vehicle eventually drove off the roadway and became disabled at the intersection with North Monroe Street, coming to a stop in the front yard of a nearby residence. Sroka, along with Deputies Thomas and Moore, were able to apprehend the two occupants of the vehicle.

The driver, a 13-year-old boy, and the passenger, a 14-year-old boy, both from Monroe, were identified at the scene. The stolen vehicle was confirmed to be the Dodge Charger reported missing earlier.

The case is currently under investigation by Lt. Sroka and Deputy Thomas of the Uniformed Services Division. Anyone with information related to the incident is urged to contact 734-240-7511.
