SALISBURY — A woman from Salisbury has faced charges of child abuse after authorities revealed that an infant under her care tested positive for fentanyl.

Police were initially summoned to the Holiday Inn hotel on 125 Marriott Circle following the discovery of drug-related items in a room being cleaned out by a staff member. The worker reported relocating the occupant to another room prior to finding the paraphernalia.

Officers subsequently located the occupant, identified as 45-year-old Angela Michelle Rimer, in the alternate room with an infant, as per a spokesperson from the Salisbury Police Department. Rimer was apprehended and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor child abuse. She was remanded to the Rowan County Detention Center with a bail set at £5,000.

Information received by authorities on the following day confirmed that the infant had tested positive for fentanyl during a hospital examination. Consequently, Rimer faced an additional charge of child abuse causing serious physical harm. Her bail for the felony charge was increased to £20,000.
