In a harrowing incident in Lower Makefield Township, a police officer intervened just in time to prevent a tragic outcome. Before the officer could exit his patrol vehicle, he witnessed a man viciously attacking a woman, stabbing her repeatedly after tackling her to the ground.

The quick-thinking officer rushed to the scene, bravely confronting the assailant, later identified as Weigel. Despite the officer’s efforts to stop the attack and provide aid, Weigel managed to flee on foot towards the vicinity of I-295.

Additional officers swiftly joined the pursuit, following Weigel as he scaled a fence in an attempt to evade capture. When they finally caught up to him, they found Weigel inflicting self-harm by stabbing himself in the neck.

During the chaos, the victim, identified as Battista, tragically succumbed to her injuries despite life-saving attempts. She was rushed to St. Mary’s Medical Center, where she was pronounced deceased.

Suspect in Custody

Weigel was immediately taken into custody and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of his self-inflicted wounds. Despite his injuries, he is expected to survive. Law enforcement officers were able to recover a knife along the path Weigel took while attempting to evade capture.

Weigel has been charged with the murder of Battista and was denied bail at a court hearing on Sunday following his arrest.
