Rockford, Illinois – The peaceful waters of the Rock River turned into a scene of tragedy on Sunday when the body of a 60-year-old man was discovered floating in the river. The man has been identified as Larry Sanford, a resident of Rockford.
The Rockford Fire Department and Rockford Police Department swiftly responded to a call from concerned neighbours near Indian Terrace at approximately 3 p.m. on Sunday. Michael Mullins, a witness to the incident, described the harrowing moment when he and his wife spotted the body in the water. “We were down by the river and my wife glanced down there and she said ‘that’s a body,'” Mullins recounted. “We went and looked at it, and it appeared to be a body. We called the police and fire services, and they arrived with the police boat to retrieve the body.”
Authorities have not disclosed the duration for which Sanford’s body was in the river. Autopsy results are currently pending, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding his tragic demise.
