A 32-year-old Indian American man named Melvin Thomas has been taken into custody on suspicion of the murder of his 61-year-old father, Manuel V. Thomas, in their residence in Paramus, New Jersey.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office has formally charged Melvin Thomas with first-degree murder, along with several other related charges in connection with the tragic incident.

Local reports indicate that Melvin Thomas, who is currently unemployed, was the individual who alerted the authorities to the situation.

The Thomas family, immigrants from the Indian state of Kerala, experienced this devastating loss at their home in Paramus. A social media profile linked to Thomas indicated that he had attended St. Stephen’s College Uzhavoor in the Kottayam district of Kerala.

The heartbreaking events transpired on Friday, February 16, 2024, when officers from the Paramus Police Department responded to a distress call regarding a possible homicide at 693 Bruce Drive. Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of Manuel V. Thomas in the basement of the property. Manuel Thomas had sustained multiple stab wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Melvin Thomas was swiftly identified as a suspect and apprehended by the Paramus police. He is currently being detained at Bergen County Jail, awaiting his initial court appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.

It has been reported that the tragic incident occurred on February 14, with Manuel’s body remaining undiscovered in the residence for a period of two days. Manuel, who had lost his wife in 2021, was known to work in the insurance industry.

According to NorthJersey.Com, Melvin Thomas is facing charges of first-degree murder, desecration of human remains, hindering the investigation, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, as well as possession of a weapon.
