Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Authorities in Colorado Springs have confirmed the identities of the victims in a tragic double homicide that took place at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS).

The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday morning inside a dormitory on the UCCS campus. Law enforcement officials released a statement detailing the events:

“At approximately 5:59 AM on Friday, February 16, 2024, the UCCS Police Department received reports of gunshots coming from Crestone House, a dormitory on campus. Upon investigation, officers discovered the bodies of an adult female and an adult male inside a dorm room. The Colorado Springs Police Department was called in for assistance, with the CSPD Homicide Unit taking over the investigation.”

Following an autopsy conducted by the El Paso County Coroner’s Office on Saturday, February 17, the victims were identified as 26-year-old Celie Rain Montgomery from Pueblo, CO, and 24-year-old Samuel Knopp from Parker, CO. While the cause and manner of death will be determined by the Coroner’s Office, the deaths of Montgomery and Knopp are being treated as homicides. Knopp was a registered student at UCCS, while Montgomery was not enrolled at the university.

Authorities emphasised that their main focus is on seeking justice for the victims and their families. The investigation is ongoing, with detectives working tirelessly to follow leads and gather information on potential suspects. However, due to the active nature of the case, specific details about suspects are not being released at this time.

It has been indicated that the incident appears to be isolated and involving individuals who were known to each other, rather than a random attack targeting the university or its students.

Efforts are being made to keep the campus community safe, with close collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the UCCS Police Department. While information has been limited in the initial stages of the investigation, authorities are committed to delivering accountability and justice for the victims.

The families of the deceased have requested privacy as they mourn the loss of their loved ones. Anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact the Colorado Springs Police Department or Crime Stoppers Tip Line to assist in the investigation.

This tragic incident marks the third and fourth homicides in Colorado Springs this year, highlighting the importance of community vigilance and cooperation in solving such crimes.
