Emergency crews responded to a devastating house explosion in Sterling, Virginia on Friday night, resulting in the tragic death of a firefighter and injuries to 10 firefighters and two other individuals.







The firefighter who lost his life in the explosion has been identified as 45-year-old Trevor Brown.

Loudoun County Fire and Rescue (LCFR) received a call about a gas leak outside a home in Sterling before 7:40 p.m. Responding units discovered a 500-gallon underground propane tank with a leak, prompting the deployment of the Hazardous Materials Response Team and additional fire units from Sterling, South Riding, Fairfax County, and the Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority.

A catastrophic explosion occurred shortly after, coinciding with distress calls from firefighters inside the house, leading to the activation of the Rapid Intervention Task Force and a second alarm.

Rescue efforts were undertaken to extricate trapped firefighters from the debris, unfortunately resulting in the loss of Trevor Brown. The injured individuals, including 10 firefighters and two civilians with non-life-threatening injuries, were transported to the hospital for treatment.

LCFR’s Fire Marshal’s Office is conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the explosion, while the community and public safety partners have been urged to offer their support during this tragic time.
