Sumaya Farah Ali : “7-Year-Old Attacked By Dogs: $36K Raised”

A heartfelt campaign has garnered an impressive sum of nearly $36,000 in donations to support the family of Sumaya Farah Ali, a 7-year-old girl who fell victim to a vicious dog attack in Minnesota.

The generous outpouring of support aims to alleviate the burden of medical expenses incurred during Sumaya’s recovery. The horrifying incident occurred while Sumaya and her mother were walking home from school, as recounted in their GoFundMe page. Remarkably, the family had only recently arrived in the United States, having lived there for just four months prior to the attack.

Authorities in St. Paul, which is located approximately 12 miles from Minneapolis, were called to the scene of the attack on Dale Street and Van Buren Avenue. KARE 11 reported that Sumaya was found with severe injuries, having been mauled by an estimated five to seven dogs.

A compassionate bystander, identified as John Albert, witnessed the horrifying ordeal when his teenage son informed him of the attack. Albert courageously intervened by driving the dogs away from the scene, saving Sumaya from further harm.

Recalling the incident, Albert recounted, “These dogs ripped up the ground. I looked at the little girl and saw blood on her face. That’s when I realized what my son was talking about,” as reported by the outlet.

During the attack, Sumaya’s mother, Sacadiya Farah, valiantly fought off the animals in an attempt to protect her daughter. In a translated interview, she expressed her concerns about the dogs not being apprehended, stating, “I’m unsure how she’s going to be able to live with these dogs if they’re not caught,” according to the outlet. Subsequently, five of the dogs involved in the attack have been taken into custody by local animal control, with the owner cooperating fully with law enforcement.

Sumaya suffered bites to her nose, ear, and thigh. Medical professionals have administered stitches to treat her wounds, but her family hopes to secure the services of a plastic surgeon to minimize any potential scarring, as stated in the fundraiser. In an update on February 11, Ali’s family shared that she has been attending regular doctor’s appointments.

Sumaya’s family expressed their relief, saying, “We came back from the doctor today after getting some more shots. We have to go back two more times but so far no major damage to her eyesight. The swelling in her face is going down a lot and today she was feeling happy and talking.”
