Accident – Death – Obituary News :
Tragedy struck the prestigious IIT-Delhi on February 16, when the lifeless body of a 23-year-old student was discovered hanging in his hostel room. The young man, identified as Sanjay Nerkar, was pursuing a Master’s of Technology at the renowned university.
The heartbreaking incident came to light when Nerkar’s worried parents tried to contact him on Thursday night, only to receive no response despite numerous attempts. Concerned, they reached out to his friends and fellow students at the Dronacharya hostel in Delhi, urging them to check on his well-being.
Nerkar resided in room number 757 of the hostel, which was found locked from the inside when his friends arrived to investigate. Despite calling out to him repeatedly, there was no reply. Fearing the worst, the students alerted the hostel authorities, who eventually forced entry into the room and made the grim discovery of Nerkar’s lifeless body hanging from the ceiling fan.
Authorities immediately notified the police, who have since launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the student’s untimely demise.
This tragic incident comes on the heels of another suicide in Kota, Rajasthan, where a 16-year-old JEE Main aspirant took his own life in his hostel room on February 13, 2024. Sadly, the total number of student deaths in January 2024 now stands at 8, prompting the government to establish a suicide helpline (9152987821) staffed by trained counsellors and psychiatric experts.
As the investigation into Nerkar’s death continues, concerned individuals are encouraged to seek support and guidance from the dedicated professionals available through the helpline. The government is committed to addressing mental health challenges among students and ensuring that appropriate resources are in place to prevent further tragedies.
