DEHRADUN: In a shocking turn of events, it has been revealed that a 25-year-old man, previously believed to be a casualty of the Haldwani riots on February 8, was actually killed by a police constable. The victim, identified as Prakash Kumar from Sinha village in Barhara block of Bhojpur district in Bihar, was allegedly murdered by constable Birendra Singh. The motive behind the killing was discovered to be an extramarital affair between Kumar and Singh’s wife, which had led to blackmail using a compromising video.

Constable’s Wife and Brother-in-Law Involved in the Murder Conspiracy

Nainital SSP Prahlad Meena revealed that Kumar’s murder was orchestrated by constable Singh and four accomplices, including Singh’s wife and brother-in-law. The investigation, which involved scrutinizing Kumar’s mobile phone records retrieved from his body, uncovered the plot. As a result, the death toll in the Haldwani violence has now been reduced to five.

According to SSP Meena, “Kumar’s communication history revealed frequent contact with a person from Sitarganj in Udham Singh Nagar district. We traced this person and identified him as Singh’s brother-in-law, Suraj Bain. During questioning, Bain admitted to being friends with Kumar for over two years, with Kumar often visiting his home.”

Meena further explained that Kumar had entered into an illicit relationship with Bain’s sister, Priyanka, and the two had recorded an intimate video together. Kumar then used this video to blackmail Priyanka for money.

“Priyanka did not inform anyone about the video until February 7, when Kumar called her husband. Upon learning about the video, Singh asked Priyanka to lure Kumar to Haldwani on February 8. When Kumar arrived, Singh confronted him, leading to his murder as part of a premeditated scheme involving Singh’s wife Priyanka, brother-in-law Bain, and two others identified as Prem Singh and Naim Khan,” Meena added.

Singh disposed of Kumar’s body in the Banphoolpura area, staging the scene to make it appear as if he was a casualty of the ongoing violence in Haldwani. “Priyanka is currently evading capture. All accused individuals face charges of murder under IPC Section 302,” Meena said.
