A devastating incident occurred on Thursday morning in Mumbai, resulting in the loss of a young life and leaving another individual injured. The victims of this tragic accident were siblings, a 19-year-old B-Tech student named Prachi Sharma and her 21-year-old brother, Kshitij. The siblings were riding on their Activa scooter when they were struck by a speeding dumper at the Dahisar checkpoint on the Western Express Highway.
Details of the Accident
Prachi and Kshitij, residents of Mira Road, were on their way to Saint Francis Institute of Technology in Borivali East when the accident occurred at around 8.30 am. Prachi was riding pillion on the scooter when the dumper truck, travelling on the scooter’s left side, suddenly swerved to the right without indicating. In an attempt to avoid a collision, Kshitij hit the brakes, causing the scooter to skid. Tragically, the rear wheel of the dumper struck Prachi’s head, resulting in severe injuries.
Following the accident, Kshitij rushed Prachi to Bhagwati Hospital in Borivali with the help of another motorist. However, due to the seriousness of her condition, she was transferred to Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali. Despite efforts to save her, Prachi succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at 10 am.
Driver Arrested for Negligence
The driver of the dumper, identified as Sarju Rajbhar, aged 45 and hailing from Katkipada, Dahisar East, fled the scene after the accident. However, he was later apprehended by local citizens and handed over to the Dahisar police. Rajbhar has been charged under sections 304 (A) for causing death by negligence and 337 for causing hurt by an act endangering life of the Indian Penal Code.
