Omar Romero : Clearlake Man Arrested for Hit and Run in Lake County, CA

A Clearlake man has been taken into custody for felony hit and run following a serious incident that left a pedestrian severely injured on Wednesday evening. Oscar Rosas, aged 45, surrendered himself to authorities a day after the collision, which took place on Highway 20 near Upper Lake.

The victim, identified as 27-year-old Omar Romero from Lakeport, was struck by a blue SUV while walking south within the eastbound lanes of the highway. The California Highway Patrol’s Clear Lake Area office responded to the scene following reports of a hit and run involving a vehicle and pedestrian in rainy and dark conditions.

Romero was rushed to Sutter Lakeside Hospital in Lakeport with significant injuries, including blunt force trauma and a broken neck. Initial investigations led officers to an address linked to the blue SUV, although the vehicle was not found at that time.

However, at 5:25 p.m. the next day, Rosas contacted the CHP’s Ukiah Communications Center to surrender himself, admitting that his 2007 Ford Escape was involved in the incident. Subsequent examination of the vehicle at Rosas’ Clearlake residence revealed damage consistent with the hit and run collision.

Rosas was then arrested for felony hit and run around 6:30 p.m. before being taken to Lake County Jail for processing, according to the CHP. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with further information is encouraged to come forward.
